Communication Is a Virus: Motivational Posters

Motivational Posters
Our posters could be hand drawn or digital, and also there is the opportunity to screen print.

Individual Work

Ideas for phrases:
- Now is the time to give more to yourself
- Eat good food - Feed your mind
- Don't waste your time or time will waste you (Muse)
- Get out of bed you lazy thing!
- Save your money. Save your health. Save your world.
- Be adventurous. Live like its the last moment of your life.
- The first step to success is to believe in yourself.
- An apple a day keeps the doctor away
- We are always waiting for our lives to begin, figuring that we will be someone else someday, but all we have is now, so don't run from it (One Tree Hill)
- Feed your brain with the fruits of knowledge
- Take a bite in the right direction
Digital
Hand drawn

The type here is inspired by a vintage type book I got out of the library. Only certain letters of each font were shown in this book, so I had to guess what I thought the other letters would look like. I really enjoyed this way of working, however, it was a slow process. Also, it is harder to edit errors such as spelling mistakes or illegible fonts compared to when I was creating my designs on the computer. Next time, I might create the design on the computer, and then print it off and copy it, this should be a lot quicker, but at the same time, wouldn't have the same personal touch.

I scanned my images in, allowing me to edit them. At first, I neatened up the images by editing the levels on photo shop, before someone in my group taught me how to live trace using Illustrator, which saved a lot of time, and made my lines much neater.

Screenprinted

These are my screen prints from my induction at Rossington Street. I am really impressed with the quality of these prints and think the motivational posters would look really good screen printed if I have the opportunity.

Posters

We've all designed some of our own, then we are going to meet to discuss which style we like best and where to go next. (Mine are above)

Steph's Brainstorm

Steph's brainstorm contains lots of ideas for products we could put our designs on to, as well as posters. These include ideas such as: bag for life for healthy eating, to encourage shoppers to buy healthy food; sports t-shirt for fitness and language designs on chopsticks.
Logo Design

Everyone had a go at designing the logos, but we all really liked one of Matt's, the 'help yourself' logo, and we thought it got our message of what we were trying to communicate across, about giving more to yourself.

Its come to this point where we have referred back to the brief and realised that it states the use of only two colours plus stock, and our earlier design ideas don't follow this. We had a group meeting to discuss what to do next after realising this!

Here is what we decided:
Our colour scheme, inspired by the motivational posters we researched would be:
Turqouise 3135c C 78 M 19 Y 16 K 0
Sepia 7506c C 6 M 11 Y 28 K 0
Chocolate Brown black4c C 59 M 64 Y 72 K 65

We decided the posters would be 2:1 ratio, A3. We aim to each create 5 posters, for five different categories, meaning there would be 25 posters. We've decided on the vintage style poster, and each will include the logo.

My Designs
I'm really proud of these designs, although the quote is a bit general relating to our aim as a whole, rather than the specific area I am looking at which is healthy eating. Out of the different colour schemes, my favourite is the fourth one. I spent ages editing and neating the images before Kirsty taught me a quick way to do this on illustrator so I am glad I have learnt this!
Hand-drawn designs for posters

These are some examples of the hand-drawn designs I made based on the vintage typography I found. I like the other ones, which I have used on my final posters, but I think these contain illegible letters. I like the quotes that I have thought of but the designs just don't work.
Finished Design Direction Boards

Kirsty re-designed the direction boards, updating them as our idea had changed, and making them match our chosen colour scheme.
