Screen Printing Induction

Blenheim
Today I had my screen printing induction at Blenheim street. After learning about the process of screen printing, as a group we each printed a book filled with information about screen printing here at college. This was printed in CMYK, so there were four layers, one cyan, one magenta, one yellow, and the final one black. We used a yellow meshed screen as we were printed on to paper. Once our prints were dry we then cut them down and made them into hot dog books.

Rossington Street
For our screen printing induction at the Rossington Street building, we were asked to bring an A5 tiff image with us. This is my original image, created using a variety of downloaded fonts displaying a message a created based on our original idea for the 'communication is a virus' brief.

I then made this image greyscale so it could be used as a positive for the screen. Again, we learnt about the process of screen printing, as it is done slightly differently at Rossington Street compared to here at Blenheim. As we only had a half a day induction, we printed the image with just one layer, so just one colour. I mixed this green with acrylic paint. We then had lots of practice on getting the right technique for printing, printing about 15 of the original green design. At the end, we experimented with applying each other colours, which didn't really work properly, as the paints bled, however, I like this look. I think screen prints have much more value and life to them than digital prints and would like to somehow use it in my current project as I have really enjoyed these inductions.
