Workshop Two
Logo Design
Concept --> Research --> Idea --> Concept --> Research --> Idea... and so on - you constantly need to try new ideas!
- When creating a logo, think up hundreds of possibilities, with different ideas, as customers change their minds so you need to give them lots of choices
- Graphic elements of a logo are:
1. Colour
2. Typeface/letterform
3. Image
4. Words
5. Shape
Quick Design!
- For this task, we thought of 32 different words relating to our good. We drew these out in a visual way, using different weights of pens, to try and communicate what the word means. I found this difficult at first, but as I drew more logo designs, I understand the task better and thought more about my designs before drawing them out
- Next, we chose one of the words that we thought really represented our good; I chose excite
- We created 8 logo designs trying to visually bring to life this word
- We created 8 more logo designs, just taking the first letter of this word
- We then created 8 image logos, which represent what our good is about
My 32 Words:
Hope, peace, love, world, happy, guides, scouts, friendship, girls, culture, adventure, learn, excite, inspire, fun, promise, changes, one, develop, contribute, unforgettable, amazing, opportunity, unity, jamb, celebrate, festival, explore, patrol, achieve, challenge, faith
Task
Create 150 logo designs relating to your good, combining 2 of these elements: word/letterform/symbol.
These need to be hand-rendered, A6 format, 1 colour, and should be able to be scanned and vectored on illustrator eventually (so not too detailed). These need to be quick ideas, you don't have to stick with the same combination, and they are for a pin-up next wednesday.
Here are the logos I researched to help me with my designs. [design context]
I have used the same word, celebrate, or letterform, c, on all of the designs. Celebrate is a word that stands out for me for my good as there are so many things to celebrate at a Jamboree, such as cultures, faith, beliefs, friendship and more. For most of the logos, I have used the globe as a symbol, as the world is an important part of scouting, with the belief of one world; one promise.
For each design, there is a reason behind all my design decisions, as I have tried to bring the world alive and make the logos represent the things I wrote in my statements.
My favourite logos are the simpler ones, with just a symbol and a letterform. I think simpler logos are easier to recognise. To continue this logo development further, I would like to choose my favourite ones and turn these into vectors on illustrator. I could also think about the addition of colour.

Workshop Three
In this workshop, we had to lay out our top ten logo designs, for a group to come around and chose which one relates most to our 9 earlier statements. This is the logo that was chosen for me:

Feedback from crit
- Simple and effective
- Gets the point across
- The shape represents the world (globe)
- Good type face
- Change the word (celebrate could mean anything)
The logo that they chose was probably my least favourite out of the ten I put down, and I was a bit unhappy about the choice, so I got some more feedback off tutors and friends to help me see how I could develop my logo further.
Feedback from tutors and friends
- Make it more girly so it relates to girl guides, such as a daisy chain around the globe rather than hands
- Could have a paper chain/ bunting around the globe to represent party theme
- 'Clients' might like the idea because it has been done before, so you need to make it your own
- It is a good logo but not representing what you are trying to communicate
- The 'clients' have said that the circle represents a globe, but it doesn't, it is just a circle
- Together may be a better word to use
- The typeface doesn't relate to the theme
