Workshop Notes
- Tweening - in between motion animators (comes from how disney worked). Computer is tweener, you are key animator doing key frames
- 25 frames per second - PAL. Conventions different around the world
- When working for TV, you are working for a smaller frame than in after effects. In this frame is the title safe action. A bigger boundary is action safe. Presets are available on software.
- Work in rules of thirds, such as how the news is split up
Task
Create a rough storyboard, with a title safe frame in a different colour. Create 5 x 5 second sequences (you can use as many key frames as you like, with a minimum of five). Use the entire words. Can use annotation to make sure the storyboards are understandable to an audience.
Response
I have found using more frames means that I can develop my ideas easier. Splitting the frames down to be 0.5 seconds each makes my idea feel like it is closer to being able to be developed on after effects. I have chosen my favourite ideas from the previous sheets and therefore actually spent quite a lot longer working on these sequences than intended.

Feedback
I decided to get some feedback from friends on what worked and what didn't in these sequences, as I will potentially be using one for my silent movie final piece. I also thought about what I liked and what I thought I needed to improve on.
General Thoughts:
- Need to consider use of colour. Why are you using it? What can it bring to the movie? What does it represent?
- How would these be placed on a timeline, so that the main action is not always just continuous, but things happen at different times to keep it exciting?
Sequence 1:
- Good idea, like that the letters are lying down, but needs a bit more happening to make it interesting
- The word could eventually go outside of the title safe zone rather than just staying as it is throughout
Sequence 2:
- Think about ending with the viewpoint totally zoomed in on the letters so that just one colour fills the screen
- Think about not just expanding but how you can show perspective
- Try different fonts
Sequence 3:
- Good idea, like the use of font, think it does represent stretching
- Can more letters be stretched, as 5 seconds is longer than you think so there needs to be enough action to keep it interesting
Sequence 4:
- Good idea, explaining expand in a way different to the obvious way you would think about it
- Why is just one letter in each key frame coloured in? This doesn't make sense. Need to use colour to add to the design rather than just using it because you have to.
- Consider different font choices
Sequence 5:
- This idea seems a bit simple and obvious, what can you do to make it more interesting?
- Why does stretch start off perfectly in the right hand corner of the title safe zone, think about placing it somewhere less obvious to begin with, and so it relates to how it will grow
- All action is continuous, so when the key action frames are put on a timeline the action may seem boring
