Good Is... Finalised Content for Information Pack

Feedback

- Shows a good understanding of what you are saying and designing as there are loads of links to back up ideas. Personal experience also informs the research [Very Good]
- The work proposed suits the brief well because its informative and fresh.
- It is very informative for what it is for, and is a great outcome for what your wanting to do [Good]
- How would people find out about it? e.g. a poster to advertise or a web ad.
- How would the pile of books get to the place to be given out? Maybe look at packaging the box, or a bag for them to put it in to take it home
- Could maybe add more pictures/images to make it less formal and more child friendly
- Try some colour on the illustrations as the book looks formal
- Could keep the guide colours as the main theme but use full colour illustrations
- Maybe try hand drawing the titles to give the book a bit more of a hand made feel as we think this would represent what guides is about

Response

I really like the idea of creating a bag to put the information packs in. I think this would be quite easy, as I could just use the designs I have already created. By creating the bag, it would give me the opportunity to create another product to put in the bag alongside the information packs. I think a promotional t-shirt would be a good idea that would appeal to the guides. I think a white vest with the 'celebrate together' logo screen printed on to the front and the official girl guiding uk logo on the back would look good. I don't think I'll have time to actually set up a screen to print, but I could have a go at creating some mock-up designs, or even digitally printing on to a t-shirt transfer.

I also think the idea of hand drawing the title, as I think it is important that the book looks more informal, so that it is fun for the guides to look at. This links back to the original reasons I had for creating a youthful style of text for my logo, so I have created my own font, based on the style of letting I used in the celebrate together logo.

Here is an example of what the pages look like with the replaced titles. The first image shows me placing the file as a .png, but after having problems with the text turning fuzzy, I have placed it as an illustrator file instead.

I have made a separator for in between each 'topic' in the information pack. I really like the colour scheme, with is made with the official colours and then shades of these.

I'm really happy with the content to the book now. It has taken me along time to write, illustrate and design the pages, but now there is so much content the book feels real.

Feedback after final crit

For the final crit we showed all our work for this brief to get last bits of feedback about things that we might not have noticed or thought about our work.

Group 1:

[approach to research]
- Obvious high level of personal engagement and response to brief
- Extensive information which demonstrates high level of research

[critical approach to the investigation]
- Lots of detailed evidence

[range of products]
- Extensive range of products which are appropriate to the audience. Maybe focus on more special finishes/use of print in your design.

[action plan]
- Investigate some editorial and magazines to inform layout of the information pack

Group 2:

[approach to research]
- Good amount of contextual reference and research for project

[critical approach to the investigation]
- Looked at good range of logos for a range of companies etc...
- Logo good, but could be more relevant to girl guides
- What other range of promotional materials are there and what would they look like in the real world?

[range of products]
- Could have a wider range of products

[action plan]
- Need some print to hold

Thoughts after feedback:

- Make it clear how it is distributed
- Put posters in context and see if they work
- Scale and quantity needs to be mentioned on boards as it is in concept boards
- Mention colour swatted on boards
- Stock flip book
- Needs to be believable
- Need to know what it looks, smells, feels like...
