After Effects Tutorials

I am trying to create my sequences for the silent movie brief, but I am struggling with the software, so I have decided to look at some tutorials to try and help me. Here are the videos I have looked at for future reference:

-My work isn't going to be kinetic typography based, but I thought this was an interesting tutorial to look at anyway, and one day I might try some kinetic typography. It has shown me that I should look at 3d type presets such as typewriter.

I found this tutorial on our forum board on moodle, and although this wasn't an effect I was planning on doing I thought it seemed interesting so I chose to do it anyway.

I downloaded this font called 'I'm fashionista', and then activated the stroke effect, and used the pen tool to draw around the text in the way it would be when it is hand written,.

On stroke options click all masks and change brush size so all of word is covered by this white stroke.

Change paint style to reveal original image.

I'm so pleased about how good this looks and how easy it was to make that I think I will try it in one of my idents of my intro. My video:

Again, this tutorial wasn't really something I was looking for, but I decided to give it a go, after seeing other peoples work and feeling as if their after effects skills were much stronger than mine. In this tutorial I learnt about camera angles, 3d and adding light.

I have imported a few of my cupcakes to experiment with, and applied the camera to my composition.

Make the shapes 3d by clicking in the box with the cube on it.

Here I can change the objects so that they are on an angle, as I had planned to do in my storyboards, as inspired by the intro of Hustle tv show.

Use the track z tool to each 3d shape, change size/ position etc, then use the orbit tool to make 3d. With track z, you can make the objects zoom in and fly past you. Again, this is something I wanted to do in my storyboards but wasn't sure how to.

This is my video showing this effect:

Also this tutorial taught about using lights. Go layer - new - light and experiment with the positioning and options of the light.

Hit aa on the keyboard to alter 3d layer options.

The focus distance on camera options makes you choose whats in focus by altering aperture and focus distance. (Buttercream butterfly is blurred in this example)

This tutorial is very basic and is about effects.

Here I have experimented with the blur effect ( I could start with a blur then make the image get clearer).

Search for effects in this box and drag and drop to apply to footage.

This tutorial is about making titles. I have already covered a lot of this in the previous workshops.

I could start with letters with positive kerning and eventually get to negative kerning.

Effects and presets - animation presets - text - choose an effect and drag on to composition:

Here I have used fade out slow as an example

Effect - generate - ramp : to make a gradient background
