Top 10 Things... Idents Ideas

These are my storyboard ideas for my idents. Most of them are based on film and tv intros that I have researched, or what I have learnt so far in my after effect tutorials. I have annotated the storyboards to try and help show the directions and movements of the different elements. I need to consider which colours I will use to know if my storyboards will work.

This storyboard features in a few effects that I have learnt in after effects, and also brings in things that I thought about for my silent movie sequences. It is quite simple, as my first ident idea, so I think there needs to be more going on for this to be more interesting, and text needs to be considered earlier than the last frame.

This storyboard is based on the Desperate Housewives intro, with the idea of how the characters hold the apples, but in my ident, I have a vintage housewife holding a cupcake. Again I've thought of using some effects that I learnt in my workshops. The vintage housewife is based on some photographs of my friend who had done a vintage style photo shoot previously. Realistically, I don't know how easy this would be to create.

This storyboard is based on the 'members 1st credit union' advert, especially the part where the text flips and turns into a new piece of text. This is the action that I want to see happening between the third and the fourth frame. I think if I made this into a real ident, there would be too much going on with the different effects I have proposed for the cupcake frame, so I would need to simplify my ideas.

This storyboard is inspired by the Starter Wife tv intro, and I think this is my favourite ident. There could be a lot going on, but because of the way the different elements appear and exit the frames all the transitions are smooth so that the sequence is interesting but not too overcrowded. I like how the text is on screen quite a lot of the time rather than it just appearing as an after thought at the end. I think I would need to consider a patterned or textured background to fill the negative space.

This storyboard is inspired by the Tracey Beaker intro, and features a lot of the initial effects I wanted to include. The style is mixed media, with photographs of cupcakes and then hand drawn elements over patterns, which is the style that I did initially want to continue with. However, I now think that this makes the sequence seem childish, compared to the vintage housewife style that I am going with.

This storyboard is inspired by the Inbetweeners intro. I like how in the inbetweeners into, the characters turn to patterns and then back to characters again, also with patterns flashing in the background, and this is something I would like to try, especially as patterns are a big part of the vintage theme. I like the texture I have also included, and think this could work really well, but I need to be careful not just to copy the inbetweeners into exactly.

This storyboard is inspired by the Hustle intro, where the text doesn't just sit straight, but is moved on its axis as if the front of it is closer to you and the back is further away, for an interesting touch. I think the diamond style feature also works well, and this seems like it could be a glamorous ident.

This storyboard is inspired by the Jamie Saves Our Bacon intro, and although I like this idea, and think it could be quite easy to make, I don't think it represents my vintage theme too well, as it doesn't contain elements like the other idents do, such as diamonds and patterns.

This storyboard is inspired by the Fresh Meat intro, where the focus is mainly on the text rather than the imagery. There are a few interesting effects here which I think I would be able to do based on what I have learnt in the after effects tutorials, so I think this could be a good ident to try to make. It contains all the necessary information as well as sticking to the vintage style so I think this works well.

This storyboard is inspired by the Q.I. intro, and is quite simple, with a few effects that I don't yet know how to do so I would have to find tutorials to teach me if I decided this ident was the one I wanted to take further. I think the text needs to appear sooner as it doesn't give the viewer enough time to read it appearing in the last frame.

This storyboard is inspired by the United States of Tara intro, which has quite a similar theme to it as I want my video to have. I really like this idea, as I think I need to be realistic about the time I have left, and this seems like a doable idea, as I have already made the assets. It is the right mix of simple but still interesting.

This storyboard is inspired by the Big Bang Theory intro, and again, I think this one could be quite possible to make, as there isn't too much going on. It would give me the chance to showcase the imagery that I have made, and would be quite a fun and interesting ident, but I need to make sure it would match the song.

This storyboard is inspired by the Russell Howard intro, where the movement of a mixture of static and animated objects is the key idea. I really like this idea, especially with it having a patterned background, but I need to remember to include the information of the time and date of the programme in the ident.
