Here I started putting into practice some of my invite design ideas to see what would work best, but then decided to play around with shape of the invite first, as this is one of the most important elements.
1. Black and white sophisticated theme
Front of envelope
All the white items would be foil printed in silver. I'm keeping the design simple to let the print finishes stand out. I'm a bit worried lots of silver might look tacky so maybe a spot varnish would work, this is something I've seen before on black and think it works really well.
Inside
Here is all the information arranged with the logo, but it still feels a bit plain. I don't know what image I would include, and I think an image would actual spoil the neat, sophisticated, professionalism I am going for.
---- I showed these to Andy in the progress tutorial [see blog post] and since then have added a bit more depth to the idea as can be seen with the mock ups [see blog post] ---
2. Organic theme
This is based on one of the ideas I created as a paper mock-up, with a little ticket at the side which is perforated so can be ripped off.
Size: height 74mm x width 105mm (a7 horizontal) + 20mm (perforated ticket bit)
I thought I would place all the information about the event on the back, but I realised that this is a bit of a small space to try and put it all, so it should go on the back of the card that holds the invite.
I'm going to keep the back of the invite just simple with the address and contact details, as if someone just took this out with them on the actual night, that is what they would need.
I want to keep it simple but it needs to be easy to read as possible. Not sure this colour would even work. Decided to go with the purpley red I have used on the texture cards.
I think the back of this needs to be as simplistic as possible. Its just the most important information.
Quite happy with this layout:
This is a mock up of what the invite would look like on the card with the scalloped edges: (front) width 185 x 145 mm.
And here are some experiments with how I could lay out the text on the back:
This is the corrected layout ready to print. The textured background is just to show what it will look like when printed. I've had to arrange it to fit in with the slits that will hold the invite on the front, so that this does not disrupt the design.
