DP3/ Brief 3/ Design Development/ Type Tutorial 5.

http://mos.computerarts.co.uk/pdf/ART180_tut_type.pdf

Decided to do this tutorial because I like the style of hand written text that looks like ribbons that I have seen a few examples of. It was fun to play about with this hand written style using my graphics tablet. I actually learnt a lot from this tutorial including some software tips that I will keep in mind.

I started by practising my hand-writing before I wrote the quote in a style I liked.

Simplifying the path - a tool I haven't used before - but very useful for smoothing and perfecting my handwriting.

I then tried to make the letters as realistic in size and proportions to a normal font as they should be. It was doing this that I realised I need to go back to basics with typography, re-learning the stuff we went over in the first year.

Next I have joined the points to make it seem like handwriting - the bottom is the original - the top is joined. This is something I wouldn't have thought about doing before but works really well.

Next I took the file over to photoshop and started making the areas that would be underneath if the font was a ribbon darker. I am really impressed with how this works.

This tutorial was a lot of fun to do and I'm happy with this final outcome. I think I could make the shadows for the overlapping ribbons a bit more obvious and maybe use a different colour for the font so I can use white to highlight to make it even more obvious. Think this is a style I will be trying again.
