Here on this first sheet I have experimented with mixing the font that I initially liked: The Missus Hand with the font that everyone in my crit agreed they liked the best: Majestrick. I tried both bold and normal weights, as well as copying the sketchy style of the Majestrick font. The font needs to match the theme I am going with for the Alice in Wonderland story, with a spooky but enchanting style, as well as being easy to read.
When I decided which style I liked the best, I then traced the The Missus Hand font and then added touches from the font Majestrick to it. I really like this font so far - it needs a bit of neatening up on Illustrator but it is exactly what I was thinking initially.
I'm now going to edit this font in illustrator, to make it in to vectors to make it neat and so that it will be easy to read.
Editing the live trace options, I found I could make it have a scratchy effect like the original Majestrick font. I'll also experiment with creating it as a neater vector and see what works best.
This is the font just live traced, I'm going to play around with it first then neaten it up. I quite like the slightly scratchy effect so I will see what works best and also ask for some feedback.
Here I've played around with seeing how the letters work with my colour scheme and I think the gold works best.
I'm really happy with how this quote looks. I think I need to create some symbols or really simple imagery to go with it. I'm going to try and see what a few more quotes look like when I've neatened up the font.
These screenshots show the mistakes in my letters that I need to change, like rough edges, bits missing, bits joined up, etc...
Here is the final, corrected typeface, Alice:
A mix of The Missus Hand & Majestrick - By Claudia Griffin
Now I'm ready to start experimenting with my quotes. I'm really happy with this font, I've shown it to a few people who were in my crit and they seem to like it too! I've been playing around with upper/lowercase text.
