Consistency and efficiency
- Working with large format Indesign documents
- Paragraph formatting - to see non printable type settings go: Type -> Show hidden characters
- Edit -> Find/change, can either type in text you want to find or find symbols etc by clicking the @ symbol. This time we are changing the double spacing between paragraphs to just a line.
- Changing instances of two paragraph returns and changing them to just one, then click find to check its working, then click change all.
- Alternative to using paragraph return: Space before and space after buttons in paragraph window. Can put in pt values to retain typographic consistency.
- Can also alter paragraph indents
- Drop caps (first option is how many lines it will be the size of, second option is how many letters)
- Reversed out text in paragraph rules
Alter weight and offset to get the rule where it should be, change the text colour to white, and the rule colour to black. This is better than using a frame to create this colour, as you won't have to keep adjusting it as you adjust the rest of the text.
- To deal with text widows: paragraph options -> keep options -> alter what you want to keep the text with for each paragraph
- Keep lines of the paragraph together so you don't get a single line of text at the top of a column which should be with the rest of its paragraph.
From this: To this with these settings:
- Type -> Tabs -> Click on bar above the ruler to place where the tab should be
- Put something in the field where it says leader and the tab gap will be filled with this
- Once you've formatted a paragraph you can save those settings as a paragraph style
- Type -> Paragraph Styles
- Every setting that has been altered is saved in the options at the side
- Can apply a keyboard shortcut in the shortcut box, can alter the settings of each paragraph to change
- Cmd + back slash \ = make the heading hang with the rest of the text
