Here is what I had to show for the final crit:
Case
Case
This isn't my final case but I wanted something to show for the crit and to get some feedback.
Idents
These aren't my final idents but I am not looking to change them completely as there isn't enough time.
My blog is also up to date with all my storyboards.
Crit Questions
Here are the questions I wanted answering in the crit:
1. Are there any technical issues?
2. Any general feedback on the DVD packaging?
3. What do you think of my idents?
e.g. Is there too much going on?
Do the patterned backgrounds work?
4. Any other suggestions/feedback
Feedback
Strengths
- Unbelievably well organised
- Consistent
- Clear concept and visuals
- Timing in the second ident works really work
- Illustrations are effective and are reflective of the music
- No technical issues
- Plenty of storyboards/development
- Good style/aesthetic overall
Areas For Improvement
- Possibly revise movement in the first ident as it looks a bit staggered
- Cupcakes could appear in sync with the beats of the music
- The text at the start of the first ident could be more legible
- Top ten needs to be centred on second ident
On DVD case
- Maybe include a barcode
- Put the text on the back in speech marks if it is a quote
- Move the title on the back up a bit as there is too much blank space
- Green BBC logo on DVD packaging doesn't fit in with the general aesthetic
Considerations
- Consider typefaces - does the one you're using fully communicate your subject? It is very specific to a female audience and the typeface could broaden this
- Backgrounds may hinder the legibility of text
- Tidy up blog by putting after effects experiments in an Issu file
- Give the illustrations more focus on the packaging
- Play around with the transitions/movements - the smoother they are the more they will work
- Maybe alter colours slightly to match depth of blue in bbc logo
- Look at pretty colours blog for colour inspiration
After Crit
I have found these fonts that maybe more relevant to the 50's theme...
Also, I think I will change the BBC Two logo to a black and white BBC logo, as I don't want to include the turquoise colour in my work.
I will go back to my idents and dvd case and make the recommended changes to improve them. I'm also considering using gickr, issu and more contact sheets to tidy up my blog where there are a lot of images.
I've found the pretty colours blog useful for choosing colours for my silent movie videos, as before I thought my colour choices were actually ruining my images.
