We started off this session by choosing a verb and an adjective to go with out object. Our object is the random word we gave last week, rather than the one we received. The word I gave was chair. I chose shrinking as my verb and gigantic as my adjective. We then drew an image of these.
Brief
In response to the image you have drawn, re-create the image three dimensionally and record the outcome photographically. Translate the method of drawing to photographic processes.
- You can have other things in the photograph as well as the object
- Don't edit/manipulate the photograph on photoshop, actually has to be made
The final documentation should be presented on A3 in the appropriate format
Rationale
Brief: What is the problem you intend to solve?
I intend to take my 2d image of my object, verb and adjective into 3d and then back to 2d, exploring material, environment, scale and form.
Who needs to know?
My audience could be quite general. The idea needs to be understood by the rest of the image group. Specifically, those interested in furniture design may be interested.
What do they need to know?
They need to be able to understand the action and description of the object through photography of the creation only.
Why do they need to know?
They need to be able to know what this image is about about the journey it has taken to get to the final outcome.
What will they respond to?
They will understand the outcome through my photographic documentation of my outcome.
What research is required?
Primary
- I need to try and take some photographs of different chairs
Secondary
- I will research paper craft artists and other 3d examples
- I will research images of different examples of chairs
- I will research images of different examples of chairs
Ideas
Here are some of my initial ideas, I think I need to do a bit of research first before I make a start.
- Take photographs of a chair made out of coloured paper, hand crafted. There would be three photos, in the first one it starts of big, and the parts are moved in the second to make it look like it is shrinking, and either further in the third to make it look really small
- Take actual photographs of a chair, make it look as if is shrinking due to the use of camera angle
- Use one image of a paper craft made chair that already looks as if it is shrinking (see drawing at the top)
- Paper craft of chair that already looks like it has shrunk at the bottom (see drawing at top)
- Photograph of chair with tiny doll on it to show chair is huge, photograph of chair with person on it to show it has shrunk to actual size, photograph of toy chair with human on it to show how small it has got
- Create a scene, like a puppet show, with 2d imagery to show the actual size of the room, with the paper craft 3d chair shrinking in it
I need to remember the time limit, as well as with it being our module hand in next week, I need to be careful about being too ambitious!
