Here I am creating the intro, based on the detailed final storyboard I created. This storyboard was inspired by the Hustle intro in particular, and other TV show intros, as seen on my design context blog posts. Storyboards with mapped out timings are useful to work out what is happening at what stage.
This image shows the audio that will be used, it is a minute long section of 'If I knew you were coming, I'd have baked a cake." I have faded the audio in and out.
I am using the same pink background that I have used in one of my idents, and fading in and out with the dark grey background.
I am a bit worried this intro will seem really slow and boring compared to my idents, which contain lots of action despite only being 10 seconds long.
I am taking advantage of the shy setting as there are going to be lots of layers!
Here the cupcake flies in, as it does in the story board.
The diamonds are sliding in from the side as inspired by the movement in the starter wife intro.
I have decided to do the hand writing effect as it was my favourite from what I have learnt. It looks really good, but I won't do it for every piece of text that appears on screen, as I think that could look too much.
As bbc two disappears, presents appears - I really like this effect but need to make sure it fits in with the timing of the music, as it seems quite slow at the moment.
I have been editing the twinkling of the diamonds, as I want to make the movement really random, but at the moment the speed is too fast.
I have decided to add my name in to it, to make it look more like a real set of opening credits. Think I need to speed my name up so it runs for the same amount of time as 'BBC two'.
I'm going to take parts from my idents as I spent so long on them, such as the countdown, and ideas that I can change slightly.
I tried experiments with different ways to get the diamonds off screen, but I think just altering there position is the best way, as the available effects look quite tacky.
I think ten seconds is a lot of time to have had the intro running with only one cupcake, so I have included them all, in a style that I used in an ident, that worked well.
I think the countdown works well with the moving diamonds in the background. It seems so much quicker when placed in the 60 seconds sequence compared to the 10.
Now, I'm sixteen seconds in and I've already covered the title, the countdown, as well as showing images of the cupcakes. I don't want to give too much away, as this is an intro, and not the show, so for example, I don't want to reveal which each of the top ten is or what order. But I need to fill up my sixty seconds some how. This seems like such a long time, and most of the intros that I researched were no where near this long, so I am finding it quite difficult to find inspiration.
I've brought in some of the 3d things I have learnt to hopefully make it more exciting and take a little bit more time.
I pasted the top ten hand writing text into the intro, as used in one of my idents.
I added a polka dot background just to try and make it more interesting. This ended up looking really good, with the pink layered with it, so I used my gingham and my stripe pattern too.
I added the 3d element in to it to make it last longer.
The video is still only 30 seconds long even though I have spent so long editing it! So I have decided to use the hand writing tool to create each of the top ten, but in no particular order to not give away the actual content.
I might put a background on or put the diamonds back on as its looking very simple like this.
I have been working out how each piece will enter and exit the screen. I decided that the first piece of text should have a dramatic entrance, but the rest of them should just appear, as they aren't on for a long time anyway.
I decided to use a gingham background to add to it, rather than using the cupcakes again to decorate the gaps.
Argh whats going on i haven't deleted anything! I was having problems when I copied over a little clip of the cupcakes from an ident I had previously made. I knew I hadn't deleted anything, and luckily, when I collected the files, and saved them as a pre composition, they were there and I was able to open this easily in to my new composition.
So in the end I got there! I have made a 60 second intro. I never thought this would actually happen. I don't know if it would have made more sense to start with the intro and then make the idents, but even still, I have learnt so much, even though this has been one of the most difficult tasks and stressful I've had to do!
[This is a low quality video as vimeo wouldn't let me upload the full quality video - full quality video can be seen on my disc]
I am going to make a post production storyboard to show my key frames from this video.
